Bird & Bird has hired corporate finance lawyer James Fong as a partner in Hong Kong from Mayer Brown JSM.

Fong primarily advises sponsors and issuers on capital market transactions. He also has experience advising on corporate finance matters including block trades, rights issues, takeover, private equities, listing of exchange-traded funds, cash offer, joint ventures and regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining Mayer Brown in 2012, Fong worked at Hogan Lovells as a partner. He joined Hogan Lovells from Johnson Stokes & Master, which combined with Mayer Brown in 2008 to become Mayer Brown JSM.

In his new role, Fong is expected to work with Bird & Bird’s existing equity capital markets and corporate team headed by Wing On Chui, as well as teams in Beijing and Shanghai.

Bird & Bird recently signed a cooperation agreement with AllBright, one of China's top five domestic law firms.
