Japanese law firm Oh-Ebashi LPC & Partners has welcomed veteran tax lawyer Hidehiro Utsumi as a partner from Big Five firm TMI Associates.

With a clientele that includes high-net-worth individuals, CEOs, corporations, and financial services firms from Japan and internationally, Utsumi’s practice covers contentious and advisory tax matters, focusing on fund-related tax issues and international taxation. He provides advice on corporate and tax law, audits, inheritance tax work, and tax aspects of M&A.

During his career, Utsumi has been involved in several high-profile deals, including advising Vodafone on its 1.8-trillion-yen ($12 billion) sale of its Japanese subsidiary, and SMBC on its 100-billion-yen investment in Barclays.

Utsumi's appointment is expected to strengthen Oh-Ebashi's position in areas such as international taxation, fund-related tax issues, and cross-border M&A transactions. The firm now has 73 partners.
