Singapore boutique law firm Magellan Law has appointed former Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow local principal Alex Toh as a partner in its technology and telecommunications (TMT) practice.

Toh, who left Baker McKenzie in November 2023 after over five years at that firm, has expertise in regulatory, advisory, and contractual matters in the TMT and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sectors.

His core competencies include navigating novel legal and regulatory issues, negotiating complex technology agreements, and managing incident responses such as data breaches and government requests.

Before his tenure at Baker McKenzie, Toh held positions at tech companies PayPal and Xilinx, and also worked at law firm Drew & Napier. He serves as an advisor to the AI Asia Pacific Institute, where he consults on AI governance and other data and technology matters.

Magellan Law was founded in 2023 by Ignatius Hwang, who previously led the Singapore offices of McDermott Will & EmerySquire Patton Boggs, and Bryan Cave. In May this year, he joined UK law firm Trowers & Hamlins’ newly launched Singapore office as a consultant.

The firm currently has four partners, including Toh. Managing partner Dawn Tan is a former McDermott Will & Emery counsel, while another partner, Chen Chi, was previously a partner at WongPartnership.
