Stephenson Harwood has hired private wealth expert Suzanne Johnston as a partner in Singapore. Johnston was most recently director and senior legal counsel at financial services firm UBS.

Johnston previously worked in the UK with firms such as Maurice Turnor Gardner, Harcus Sinclair and Linklaters. She relocating to Singapore in 2013 to join Withers, where she spent more than five years.

Specialising in international tax and wealth planning, Johnston advises high net-worth individuals, professional trustees, family offices and private banks.

She is Stephenson Harwood’s first lateral partner hire in Singapore since it added arbitration expert Chris Bailey from King & Spalding in July.

Johnston’s arrival means Stephenson Harwood now has 20 partners in Singapore.

UK law firm Simmons & Simmons has beefed up its partner strength in Asia by hiring Terence Seah in Singapore from Stephenson Harwood and Jeffrey Friedenberg as the head of its private funds practice in Hong Kong, and also relocating disputes partner Steven Kaye to Singapore from London.
