Singapore Big Four law firm Drew & Napier is partnering telecom provider Singtel to launch a cybersecurity incident training programme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the city-state.

The programme, called Cyber Elevate Programme, will equip SMEs with the knowledge and legal understanding to handle cyberattacks. It includes an audit of a company’s cyber risk profile, mentorship workshops on the best cyber security practices and legal and forensics support by key partners who will render vital assistance to the SMEs in the event of a cyberattack.

“SMEs are the backbone of the Singapore economy. Cyber resilience for SMEs in the form of appropriate legal and technological frameworks are thus critical given the significant increase in cyberattacks and data breaches,” said Rakesh Kirpalani, a dispute resolution and IT director and chief technology officer of Drew & Napier, in a statement.

The tech team of Drew & Napier advises on cyberattacks and other technological security issues arising from recent technology advances and data-related legal developments, he added.

According to the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, almost 40 percent of cyberattacks in Singapore target SMEs, with phishing and ransomware being the most common methods of attack. Despite this, SMEs hold the misconception that they will not be victims of cyberattacks, with one in four not having any processes or policies to protect themselves.
