Trilegal is advising French carmaker Peugeot in its joint venture with two CK Birla Group entities, which were represented by Khaitan & Co.

The JV company involves CK Birla units Hindustan Motor Finance Corporation (HMFCL) and AVTEC, which manufactures powertrains and precision-engineered products. It is expected to manufacture powertrains and cars in India.

The partnership will be followed by Peugeot’s initial investment of $100 million in the state of Tamil Nadu, located in South India.

About 20 years ago, Peugeot abandoned the Indian market after it faced labour issues and growing losses.

The Trilegal team was led by partner Yogesh Singh and supported by counsel Ramakant Rai. Partner Bharat Anand handled the transaction for Khaitan & Co.
