Gautam Bhatikar
partner, Phoenix Legal

news

Gautam Bhatikar is a partner at Phoenix Legal in Mumbai and has had a remarkable 25-year career in the legal field.

He has extensive experience in various practice areas such as commercial disputes, maritime, shipping and inter-national trade, insurance and reinsurance, infrastructure and offshore construction, oil and gas, mining and natural resources, and commodities.

Over the last year, Bhatikar has accomplished a notable achievement in representing Durmast and the barge P305. This was one of the largest offshore mishaps caused by a cyclone on the west coast of India. With over 250 passengers on board and nearly 100 fatalities, the case was both challenging and complex. Bhatikar’s expertise in defending the owners and dealing with simultaneous investigations from regulatory bodies and marine police was evident. He represented the owners through their underwriters in this most challenging case in India’s marine sector history. The representation involved defending before various regulatory bodies, prosecutions, and investigations. The vessel’s capsizing made the case extraordinarily complex and challenging.

Bhatikar prides himself on his approach to client service. He builds his foundation on trust, commitment, and professionalism, while tailoring his legal counsel to align with his clients’ commercial objectives. He cultivates personalised relationships by stepping into his clients’ shoes and providing unwavering support and guidance throughout their legal journey. His focus on open communication ensures clients are informed and engaged at every crucial juncture, fostering empowerment and positivity. Bhatikar’s domestic client portfolio includes influential names such as Larsen & Toubro, TATA International, ITC, Adani Enterprises, and several multinationals and Fortune 500 companies. His ability to understand and address clients’ unique needs has solidified his reputation as a trusted advisor within the legal community.
