Dentons plans to expand its network further in the ASEAN region this year by combining with a firm each in Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, according to recent comments made by Gerald Singham, the firm’s global vice-chair and ASEAN CEO.
Singham, who recently took over as managing partner of Dentons Rodyk, the Singapore member firm of Dentons, told the Business Times that said that expansion will proceed into Laos, Brunei and Cambodia soon after.
Dentons Rodyk was established in 2016 following the merger between Dentons and Rodyk & Davidson, one of Singapore’s oldest firms. In 2017, Dentons Rodyk merged with a firm in Myanmar, while Malaysia’s Zain & Co. and Indonesia’s Hanafiah Ponggawa & Partners were added to the network in 2018.
With Rodyk & Davidson being established in 1861, Dentons Rodyk is set to celebrate its 160th anniversary this year. The firm has more than 200 lawyers in Singapore, according to the ALB Asia Top 50 rankings in 2020, while Dentons boasts access to more than 12,000 lawyers in 80 countries.
