Yigong (Justin) CHEN is the founding partner of PacGate Law Group. After PacGate moved to Beijing in 2005, he has led it to develop rapidly. At present, the total transaction amount of PacGate is up to CNY 72.8 billion. Meanwhile, as a foreign-related legal expert for many leading companies, he has taken part in the growth of his clients from small venture-backed companies to public companies, supporting the dynamic daily growth as a close advisor and helping to complete multiple rounds of financing and other transactions. Moreover, as a navigator in the field of venture capital investment in the United States and China, he has opened a window for Chinese entrepreneurs to connect with foreign capital markets.
As the founder of PacGate, one of the most innovative law firms in China which provides all-round and unrivalled depth legal services for its clients, Mr. CHEN has a different legendary experience from other attorneys. From a bachelor of biology from Peking University to a JD from the University of Iowa, he spent seven of his ten years of researching in biochemistry. However, he preferred communicating with people to studying in a laboratory, so he switched to the law in the last three years, and was qualified as a licensed attorney in California and a registered patent attorney in the United States.
In 2005, after witnessing the rise of entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley and the Internet bubble, Mr CHEN seized the opportunity of the era. He used his contacts accumulated in the investment environment of Silicon Valley and overseas investment and financing experience to provide returned entrepreneurs and investors with legal services in offshore equity structure, overseas listing, investment, merger, etc.
On this basis, Mr CHEN founded PacGate and led it to become an endsville and excellent law firm in China gradually. It was selected by Chambers and Partners as “Accredited law firm in private equity and venture capital in 2020” and repeatedly rated as “China Top 10 Firms to Watch” by Asian Legal Business subordinate to Thomson Reuters, etc.
