SPEAKER Malcolm Dowden Malcolm Dowden is a member of the global data privacy, cybersecurity and digital assets team at Squire Patton Boggs (UK) LLP and Co-Head of Knowledge Management for the Firm. He is also an Associate Lecturer and Visiting Fellow at the University of Winchester, serving as module leader for the university’s multi-disciplinary course on Technology and Cyber Law. Malcolm has more than 30 years’ experience of advising governments and commercial organisations on issues relating to technology, electronic communications, data protection and cybersecurity. Malcolm has, over the past decade, designed and delivered a number of successful ALB Masterclasses, including sessions on Blockchain, Distributed Ledger and Smart Contacts. His publications include the UK/EU chapter in The Law of Artificial Intelligence and Smart Machines (American Bar Association, 2019) and AI-related episodes of SPB’s podcast, Privacy World. OVERVIEW ALB Deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) In Global Business is a face-to-face workshop that explores the interaction of those legal and regulatory risks and provide you with a roadmap for risk assessment and management. It will examine existing and developing approaches to AI regulation including the US Executive Order of 31 October 2023, the EU’s AI Act and the G7 AI Principles together with governance frameworks such as Singapore’s AI verify. It will also cover the impact of key data protection laws including GDPR, China’s Data Security Law and PIPL and India’s DPDP Act. Finally, it will look at incidental and possibly unforeseen risks stemming from intellectual property infringements to loss of commercial confidentiality and “hallucinations” in generative AI.
