34 ASIAN LEGAL BUSINESS CHINA • 亚洲法律杂志-中国版 JUNE 2023 On May 18, 2023, the 20th ALB China Law Awards ceremony was successfully held at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Beijing. The final list of winners for the 2023 Law Awards was also announced that evening. This was the first Law Awards ceremony held by ALB in China after the easing of COVID-19 measures. Putting aside the intense pressures of the past three years, professionals in the Chinese legal community once again gathered in person in a close-knit setting. Over 220 influential lawyers, in-house counsel, and business professionals from the Chinese legal market attended the awards ceremony, enjoying various highlights such as the red carpet and cocktail reception, the ceremony, and the dinner. The 2023 ALB China Law Awards featured a total of 44 award categories. Among Chinese law firms, King & Wood Mallesons and Zhong Lun emerged as the biggest winners of the evening, each taking home seven awards. Zhao Jing from Zhong Lun won the Managing Partner of the Year award, while Ning Xuanfeng from KWM claimed the newly established Woman Lawyer of the Year award. Han Kun was honored with three awards. Among international law firms, Clifford Chance came in first place, receiving six awards. Linklaters and Baker McKenzie FenXun both won two awards. For the in-house categories, Baidu’s Transaction and Compliance Legal Department won two awards, and its head, Wu Mengyi, was named In-House Woman Lawyer of the Year. Legal departments of WeBank, Boehringer Ingelheim, Abbott, NIO, China Power International, Li Auto, Dajia Asset Management, and Micro Connect also stood out and won awards for their innovation and compliance capabilities. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the ALB China Law Awards, and many guests took this opportunity to congratulate ALB and acknowledge its support for the Chinese legal market over the past two decades.
