JSA Advocates & Solicitors has become the latest firm to turn to IndusLaw to boost its partner ranks with the addition of Infrastructure and projects-focused partners M. Arun Kumar (L) and Deepak Chowdhury along with their teams in Gurugram and Hyderabad, respectively.

“Arun and Deepak had done good work on project real estate diligence working alongside our project M&A, project disputes and regulatory and real estate teams across the country. We wish them well,” Avimukt Dar, IndusLaw’s founding partner, told ALB.

Confirming the move, JSA’s co-managing partner Vivek Chandy told ALB that the firm is on a growth path and always looking for good teams to bring on board.

“Infrastructure is an important practice area for the firm, where the firm is continuously looking to grow its already large practice,” said Chandy.

Kumar, who joins with a seven-lawyer team, has close to two decades of experience advising on acquisitions, divestments and joint ventures in the projects, construction and real estate sectors. He has been advising clients in sectors such as airports, ports, highways, urban infrastructure, renewable energy, leisure and hospitality, waste management, commercial and residential real estate development, media, information technology and education.

He also has experience in relation to pre-bid advisory, tender documentation and general project development documentation, including EPC contracts, O&M Contracts, and concession agreements for PPP projects.

Chowdhury, who joins with his team of six lawyers, is a Hyderabad-based real estate and projects specialist, with more than 16 years of experience advising clients on contractual and regulatory issues pertaining to the development of infrastructure projects.

He has worked on numerous projects implemented on public-private partnership model in multiple sectors ranging from ports, airports, mass rapid transit systems, highways, water supply, solid waste and e-waste management, and waste to energy projects.

Hyderabad, which has traditionally been a real estate and litigation-focused market is seeing an influx of corporate lawyers as the demand for expertise grows across sectors.

Chandy said that JSA was looking to significantly grow its M&A, corporate and private equity spaces in the city.

Kumar and Chowdhury have continuously transitioned between firms together since 2009, having been colleagues at Link Legal India (now Dentons Link Legal) from 2009 to 2015, before joining Krishnamurthy & Co. in 2015 as associate partners. They then joined IndusLaw in 2017 in their New Delhi and Hyderabad offices respectively.
