PRC law firm Jingtian & Gongcheng has strengthened its corporate & securities and capital markets practice in Hong Kong after hiring two partners from Morrison & Foerster, namely Vivian Yiu (L) and Huang Ke.

Joining Yiu and Huang in the move are a team comprising a counsel and four associates.

Yiu has more than 22 years of experience advising on a broad range of corporate transactions, including primary and secondary equity offerings in Hong Kong, pre-IPO investments, PIPEs, public and private M&A transactions and formation of joint ventures.

Prior to joining MoFo in 2016, Yiu worked at Allen & Overy for over 10 years. Before that, she also had over five years of experience at Clifford Chance.

Huang has focused on international capital markets and related transactions for more than 15 years. He has experience representing issuers and underwriters in Rule 144A and Regulation S international equity and debt offerings throughout Asia, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia.

After MoFo closed its Beijing representative office in June, Huang had been based in the firm’s Hong Kong office. He started his legal career as an associate at Allen & Overy in 2008, and then worked with O’Melveny & Myers as a counsel, before joining MoFo in 2019

"The appointment of Vivian and Ke are pivotal for Jingtian & Gongcheng and our broader Asia practice," commented. Vivian’s deep expertise in corporate transactions and regulatory compliance alongside Ke’s focus on international capital markets will greatly enhance our ability to serve our clients across these critical areas, which form a key part of our future growth," said Zhao Yang, the chairman of Jingtian & Gongcheng’s management committee.

"We are delighted to welcome both Vivian and Ke to our firm. Vivian’s substantial experience in capital markets, public and private M&A, and regulatory compliance matters, combined with Ke’s extensive international capital markets background, will provide our clients with unparalleled insight and support. Their arrival at our firm reinforces our commitment to delivering top-tier legal services across our China offices and throughout the Asia Pacific," added Elaine Lo, senior managing partner of Jingtian & Gongcheng’s Hong Kong office.

Since Jingtian & Gongcheng’s launch of its independent Hong Kong practice in 2019, it has been hiring lawyers with extensive experience at international firms, including former Mayer Brown Hong Kong head Lo and former DLA Piper China head Liu Wei.

With the new additions, Jingtian & Gongcheng now has 14 partners in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, for MoFo, Yiu and Huang mark the most recent Asia departures. Barely days ago, two MoFo Singapore corporate partners, including Singapore office head Shirin Tang, moved to Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow.
