K&L Gates has hired former Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson corporate partner Carolyn Sng in Hong Kong.

Sng advises corporations and financial institutions on their M&A, private equity and capital markets deals in Hong Kong and Asia.

“The Asia capital markets have picked up in the past few months and Carolyn’s arrival will certainly help in handling that increased deal flow,” said K&L Gates’ Asia managing partner David Tang, in a statement.

Sng’s hire comes after Fried Frank announced in January that it was closing its offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai, effectively pulling the firm out of Asia. The firm’s Asian offices are expected to formally close by the end of June.

Since the announcement, most of Fried Frank’s partners in Hong Kong have joined other firms. The U.S. firm’s former Hong Kong disputes team, comprising partner Alfred Wu, senior consultant Philip Nunn and three associates, left for Norton Rose Fulbright in April, while corporate partners Douglas Freeman and Victor Chen joined Paul Hastings in the same month.
