U.K.-headquartered Taylor Vinters has acquired a stake in Via Law Corporation, a Singapore-based boutique firm that specialises in intellectual property (IP) and technology, media and telecommunications (TMT), as part of its plan to expand in Asia.

The combined new entity will carry out business under the name Taylor Vinters Via, which is subject to regulatory approval. It will have an eight-member team that includes directors Yingyu Wang and Bryan Ghows.

Through this deal, Taylor Vinters will transfer its existing Singapore business into Via Law while Via Law will become a corporate partner in Taylor Vinters.

“In Singapore, foreign ownership rules restrict the investments international firms are permitted to make in local law firms, so we have developed a novel cross-ownership structure. This will provide a strong platform for success by enabling us to more effectively align and integrate our businesses,” said Taylor Vinters CEO Matt Meyer in a statement.
