Pinsent Masons MPillay, the Singapore office of UK law firm Pinsent Masons, has recruited senior energy and infrastructure expert David Clinch as a partner in Singapore from Shearman & Sterling, where he was an of counsel.

With more than three decades of experience, Clinch advises clients in Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East on energy-related M&A, joint ventures and projects. He joined Shearman in 2021 as a partner from Herbert Smith Freehills.

At Herbert Smith, which he joined in 1994, Clinch advised on projects like a $16 billion refinery in Tuban, Indonesia, as well as representing China General Nuclear on its $2.3 billion acquisition of then-Malaysian state fund 1MDB’s energy business.

This addition has taken the number of Pinsent Masons partners in Singapore to 12. They include energy partner William Stroll, who returned to the firm from Herbert Smith Freehills in 2021.
