International law firm Allen & Overy has promoted two lawyers to partnership at its United Arab Emirates offices as part of a series of promotions globally at the firm.

Former senior associate David Miles was promoted within the banking practice, and will be based out of Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, former Dubai-based counsel Christopher Mainwaring-Taylor has been named a partner in the firm’s litigation practice.

Globally, Allen & Overy said announced 23 promotions to partner across 14 offices in 12 countries, with women partners accounting for nearly 40 percent of the total number of promotions. For instance, Cindy Lo in Beijing was promoted within the firm’s banking practice, while Vivian Yiu was named partner in its corporate practice in Hong Kong.

"These global promotions reflect the cross border nature of our work and the strength of our international network, the largest of any of the elite law firms,” said managing partner Wim Dejonghe. “The retention of our female lawyers through to partnership remains one of our key priorities, and it is great to see us continue to retain such talent through to partnership.”

All promotions are effective as of May 2012, the firm said in a statement. ALB
