Appleby has relocated corporate partner John Melia from the Isle of Man to its Hong Kong office. He returns to Asia, where he was previously based for six years with Reed Smith (Richards Butler) in Hong Kong and Beijing.

Melia, whose practice focuses on M&A, private equity, capital markets listings, banking and finance, and general corporate matters, has been a partner at Appleby since 2009.  “I am really excited to be joining our established and experienced transactions team in Hong Kong, and look forward to helping them build on their success in delivering the highest standards of service to our clients in Asia and world wide,” he said.

Commenting on her newest team member, Appleby Hong Kong managing partner Frances Woo said in a statement: “John is very much seen as a rising star in the commercial world, and has a wealth of experience having worked offshore for the past four years, and onshore for over a decade with major firms in London, the Middle East and also the Far East.”

“The move to bolster our well-established team here on the ground in Hong Kong reflects continued growth in demand for corporate advice and services in Asia. The timing is right for John and his family, and for Appleby.”
