Ashurst has hired projects and corporate expert Tureia Sample as the managing partner of its Port Moresby office in Papua New Guinea, and also seen the exit of disputes partner Jason Brooks to Dentons.
Sample joins from PwC Australia. She advises clients in sectors such as energy, social infrastructure, transport and technology in projects as well as general corporate, governance and commercial matters. Prior to joining PwC nine years ago, Sample held various in-house roles at Special Broadcasting Service Australia for nearly 13 years.
“Her appointment reflects Ashurst's commitment to the energy transition and its continued investment in PNG,” Ashurst said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Brooks, an expert in commercial litigation, advises clients in sectors such as financial services, mining, energy and resources on matters involving judicial review, tax litigation, customs litigation, employment law, and regulations.
“Dentons has had a presence in PNG for over 50 years and is the leading law firm in that country. I’m pleased we have been able to welcome a lawyer of Jason’s calibre to complement our existing high-performing team,” the firm’s Australia Chair and Australasia Region CEO, Doug Stipanicev, said in a statement.
