Baker & McKenzie has relocated partner Jo Daniels from Brisbane to Myanmar and named her managing partner of its Yangon office.

Daniels succeeds Chris Hughes, who left the firm in August 2015 to launch Berwin Leighton Paisner’s office in Yangon. At that time, Baker & McKenzie brought back John Hancock, its former Asia-Pacific chairman, as managing director for Yangon.   

Daniels, who joined the firm as a partner in 2014, has more than two decades of experience in mining and natural resources, infrastructure, competition and regulatory, government law and general commercial work. She previously had stints as partner at Allens, Middletons and Clayton Utz.

Baker & McKenzie opened its Yangon office in February 2014, after moving Hughes over from Sydney. In May 2015, it added a second partner by hiring Ola Nicolai Borge, the former Myanmar managing partner of accounting firm Grant Thornton.
