Bingham McCutchen has strengthened its Asian corporate practice with the hire of partner Steve Lewis in Tokyo.

Lewis, who was the managing partner of Herbert Smith Freehills’ Tokyo office for 10 years, specialises in M&A, investments and energy-related matters across several industry sectors in Japan. During his career, he has worked with UK and European multinationals, as well as Japanese companies including Sumitomo, Mitsui, Itochu, and NTT DoCoMo.

“The addition of Steve brings strength and experience in emerging markets and will allow us to better serve our clients in Asia, the U.S. and Europe,” said Hideyuki Sakai, Bingham’s managing partner of the Tokyo office, in a statement. “His insight into the marketplace will benefit not only our Japanese clients, but also those U.S. and European companies that conduct business in Asia.”

Bingham’s Tokyo office comprises over 70 lawyers, many of whom are Japanese bengoshi.
