Barrister Ben Olbourne, previously a member of 20 Essex Street Chambers, has joined Thirty Nine Essex Street Chambers in Singapore.

The arbitration and litigation specialist has been based in Singapore for three years. With expertise in international commercial disputes, Olbourne’s recent work has been principally in the general commercial, international trade and commodities, energy, oil and gas, and shipping sectors. He also has experience of handling public and private international law disputes, including investment treaty disputes.

Additionally, Olbourne is an arbitrator, having recently been appointed under the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and London Maritime Arbitrator Association Rules as well as in ad hoc proceedings.

“We are absolutely delighted that Ben will be joining us,” said David Barnes, chief executive and director of clerking at Thirty Nine Essex Street Chambers, in a statement. “His reputation in Singapore precedes him, and his local knowledge and reputation in international arbitration will be an invaluable addition to our rapidly growing practice.”

Thirty Nine Essex Street opened an office in Kuala Lumpur last month, to go with its Singapore office, which was launched in January 2013.
