Deloitte Australia has announced that associate general counsel Rachel Besley will take over as general counsel from 1 September 2012. The firm’s current general counsel, Leslie Moore, is retiring to pursue a career as a writer on 31 August after nine years with the firm.

As part of her new role, Besley will become secretary to the Deloitte Board, and will continue as a member of the firm’s innovation council and the lead for the firm’s Inspiring Women’s initiative in Deloitte’s internal service lines.

While associate general counsel at Deloitte Besley has been responsible for the commercial and corporate legal teams at Deloitte.  She joined Deloitte in 2002 as a senior associate from DLA Piper, where she specialised in intellectual property and information technology law.
