DFDL has named Kristy Newby, the head of its Regional Mining Division, as the new managing director of its Lao PDR practice. She will take over from Rupert Haw, who will stay on with the firm as a part-time consultant when he steps down.
Newby, who is currently serving as deputy managing director of the practice, spent four years in the Lao PDR office before moving to Hanoi in 2014. Prior to that, she was with Minter Ellison.
Newby’s areas of practice include project finance for power projects as well as corporate and commercial matters with a focus on the energy and resources sector. She has experience advising potential investors, existing operators, and regulatory authorities in the mining sector in the Mekong region.
