DLA Piper has relocated corporate partner Mel Sims from London to Doha, Qatar in a move aimed at beefing up its presence in the Middle East.

Sims, who joined the firm in 1989, is principally a private equity partner specialising in the financial services sector and acts for private equity and banking institutions as well as management teams in the context of leveraged buyouts. He also has experience in advising on joint venture enterprises and in acting for major corporates on cross-border, multijurisdictional M&A transactions.

“This is a key move and one that further enhances our position in the Middle East region as Mel Sims brings with him unrivalled experience of complex, high-value corporate transactions,” said Abdul Aziz Al-Yaqout, regional managing partner for DLA Piper Middle East, in a statement.

DLA Piper has offices in all six GCC countries, as well as a group firm in Egypt and a presence in Iraq.
