Reed Smith has hired Charles Ball as a partner in its Energy and Natural Resources Group in Singapore from Herbert Smith Freehills.
Ball has more than 12 years of experience in Asia, the last six of which have been in Jakarta. He advises companies in the energy and natural resources sector on disputes, crisis management and compliance issues - with a primary focus on regulatory compliance and country risk issues.
With a focus on Indonesia, Ball’s clients include foreign oil and gas, oil and mining services and construction companies. He has appeared before courts, arbitral tribunals and in mediations in the U.S., Japan, the Middle East and Indonesia.
“Our Singapore office is very important for us strategically and our team is known for its very strong industry sector expertise and its experience across Asia,” said Gautam Bhattacharyya, office managing partner of the Reed Smith’s Singapore office, in a statement. “Charles’s attributes, and his Indonesian experience in particular, will be a great addition to our Singapore-based team and be invaluable for our clients.”
Ball’s arrival takes the total number of partners at Reed Smith’s Singapore office to six.
