Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung (HBT), Herbert Smith Freehill’s Indonesian associate firm, has expanded its disputes practice with the hire of partner Harris Toengkagie from Indonesian firm Makarim & Taira S.
Toengkagie has nearly two decades of experience representing and advising national and multinational corporations in litigation and dispute resolution, competition, and corporate compliance.
He also has experience across employment advisory and real estate matters, including land acquisition matters for power plants and property developments.
Toengkagie spent more than 12 years at Makarim. Before that, he had stints at law firm Lubis Santosa & Maramis and energy company Weatherford.
"With Indonesia's status as an important investment destination, Harris's experience in complex multijurisdictional projects allows our corporate clients to benefit from both his local and cross-border expertise when structuring transactions and investments," said HBT managing partner Tjahjadi Bunjamin in a statement.
Toengkagie marks HBT’s first partner hire since 2022 when the firm added Prawidha Murti from Oentoeng Suria & Partners, Abimata Putra from HHP Law Firm, and Irfan Ghazali from Sarana Menara Nusantara.
