Herbert Smith Freehills has promoted and relocated disputes lawyer James Doe from Doha to Seoul to replace partner Tony Dymond, who has left the firm to join Debevoise & Plimpton in London.

Doe has been promoted into Herbert Smith Freehills’ partnership, and will relocate to Seoul to head the firm’s South Korean disputes practice. He will also succeed Dymond as the office’s chief representative partner, which is subject to regulatory approval.

Doe focuses on the construction and engineering sectors, and advises clients on cross-border and energy-related disputes.

Dymond and corporate partner Lewis McDonald helped launch Herbert Smith Freehills’ Seoul office in April this year. McDonald, who relocated from Singapore to the new office shortly after its opening, has been appointed Seoul managing partner.
