India's S&R Associates has increased the number of its partners from five to seven with the promotions of Venkatesh Vijayaraghavan in New Delhi and Bhakta Patnaik in Mumbai. The promotions were the first for the firm since 2008.

Patnaik, who was previously managing associate with Linklaters in Singapore, focuses on capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and debt restructuring, and liability management. He has advised issuers and major international and Indian investment banks on a broad range of international transactions across the Asia-Pacific region.

Vijayaraghavan, who was previously an associate with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York, covers mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, private equity and joint ventures. Prior to joining Cravath, he clerked for B.N. Kirpal, former Chief Justice of India.

Interestingly, Vijayaraghavan and Patnaik were classmates at the National Law School in India, from where they graduated in 2002. Also, both have previously worked at Amarchand & Mangaldas.

“I have enjoyed working in a transparent and collegial environment where quality and international standards are the main focus, in which respect I believe S&R is ahead of other Indian law firms, large or small,” Vijayaraghavan told ALB. “I hope to continue to grow with the firm and build its full-service franchise.”

S&R has a total of 40 lawyers at its Mumbai and New Delhi offices. ALB
