Kochhar & Co has named Piyush Gupta, most recently a senior legal counsel with Indian airline IndiGo, as a partner in the firm’s competition and aviation law practice. Gupta will be based in Kochhar’s Gurgaon office.

With eight years of experience in India and Singapore, Gupta had previously worked with Singapore Airlines, where he headed the company’s competition law compliance regime, apart from worked with the corporate finance teams on a variety of matters. Gupta also counts Rajah & Tann among his employers.

Gupta’s expertise includes competition law compliance and audit, aircraft leases, BFE purchase agreements, and negotiations with airport operators along with other regulatory agencies.

“(Gupta) brings diverse and extensive experience both from a corporate and competition law perspective,” said Rohit Kochhar, chairman and managing partner of Kochhar, in a statement. “Kochhar & Co has consistently endeavored to build an impressive bench strength of partners. With the induction of Piyush we head towards building a robust aviation and competition law practice.”

With more than 150 lawyers, Kochhar has six offices in India, and five overseas --  in Atlanta, Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai, and Jeddah.
