Japanese law firm Mori Hamada & Matsumoto has strengthened its presence Japan and Singapore on the back of two new lateral hires and five promotions.

Previously at Morrison & Foerster, corporate and finance lawyer Tony Grundy will serve as a senior of counsel in the firm’s Singapore office, while former Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) chairman Kazuhiko Takeshima joined as an adviser in Tokyo.

Grundy advises Asian financial institutions, borrowers and trustees on corporate, capital markets, banking and matters.

During his time at the JFTC, Takeshima helped enforce competition laws – including the Antimonopoly Act – and helped grow its international presence.

Mori Hamada & Matsumoto’s promotions to its partnership in Tokyo include M&A and private equity expert Masakazu Masujima, IP specialist Tetsushi Kamimura, and dispute resolution lawyer Kana Manabe.

Regulatory and compliance lawyer Itaru Adachi and corporate specialist Yohei Koyama were promoted to of counsel.
