Jones Day has hired Michelle Chen, who was a partner with the legacy office of Herbert Smith until June this year, as a partner in its banking and finance practice in Singapore.

Chen, who has more than 20 years of experience, focuses her practice on structured finance, in particular project finance and pre-export finance in the energy sector. She also has experience in credit insurance, restructuring, and general financings.

“Michelle joins us at an exciting time and we are delighted to welcome her to the Singapore office where she will add strength and depth to our growing banking and finance practice, and provide significant support to our energy practice,” said Sushma Jobanputra, partner-in-charge of Jones Day’s Singapore office, in a statement. “Michelle’s international experience will be a great asset to the firm and to our clients both locally and regionally.”

Chen is admitted to practice in England and Wales, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
