Squire Patton Boggs has hired Rika Beppu as a corporate partner in Japan from Hogan Lovells’ Tokyo office, where she led the corporate and M&A practice.

Beppu, who has been a registered foreign lawyer in the country since 2001, mainly advises Japanese multinational companies on corporate and M&A transactions.

Before her nine-year tenure at Hogan Lovells, Beppu was the office managing partner and head of the corporate department at Simmons & Simmons in Tokyo.

A senior UK qualified lawyer, Beppu also chairs the Legal Services Committee of the European Business Council in Japan and is a founding member and chair of Women in Law Japan.

“Her skills and experience fit well with the firm’s existing practice both within Tokyo and internationally, and we see substantial cross-selling opportunities in areas such as life sciences, dispute resolution and automotive,” added Stephen Chelberg, SPB’s corporate practice group leader for Asia Pacific.
