The Tokyo office of Squire Sanders has been buoyed by the arrival of aircraft finance expert Hisao Hirose from Latham & Watkins. With over 30 years of experience, Hirose has worked extensively with Japanese leasing companies, banks, large airlines, and low cost carriers (LCCs).

Before heading the aviation finance practice for Latham & Watkins in Tokyo, Hirose established his own firm in 1992, and merged the practice with White & Case’s Tokyo office in 1998. He also served as general counsel to Citibank Japan for five years before returning to private practice in 2005.

“We are delighted to welcome Hirose-sensei to Squire Sanders, and his move here is indicative of our commitment to the important global aviation sector,” said Ken Kurosu, Squire Sanders’ Tokyo managing partner, in a statement. “With high energy costs, many traditional legacy airlines looking to upgrade their fleets, and a growing number of LCCs entering the market in the Asia region, the industry faces considerable challenges as well as opportunities. With Hirose and the development of our finance team in the Tokyo office, we will be adding considerable value as well as expanding our services to this sector.”
