U.S.-headquartered disputes boutique Steptoe & Johnson has hired investigations and white-collar defense specialist Cáitrín McKiernan as a partner from Shearman & Sterling. She is expected to split her time between Hong Kong and New York.

With nearly 12 years of experience, McKiernan advises multinational companies in the Asia-Pacific region on multijurisdictional compliance reviews, internal investigations, compliance policy-making, proactive compliance and interactive compliance training.

McKiernan worked for Shearman from 2016 to 2023, and was seconded to Google from 2019 to 2020 as an in-house counsel. She started her career at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

With McKiernan’s arrival, Steptoe now has three partners in Hong Kong.
