U.S. firm White & Case has hired M&A and private equity expert Naoya Shiota as a partner in Tokyo from Mori Hamada & Matsumoto.

Shiota was at Mori Hamada for more than 16 years, becoming a partner in 2015. During that time, he spent a year in New York with Weil, Gotshal & Manges as a trainee.

With experience in cross-border and domestic acquisitions and disposals across sectors such as automotive, technology and entertainment, Shiota advises both corporate and private equity clients.

Shiota is White & Case’s second partner hire in Tokyo this year; the firm welcomed debt finance specialist Clara Shirota from Clifford Chance in January.  The U.S. firm’s Tokyo office now has 41 lawyers, including 13 partners.
