South Korean Big Six firm Yulchon has continued its aggressive expansion with the addition of antitrust and intellectual property expert Dave Koo, who becomes the firm’s tenth partner hire in 2024. Koo joins from Kim & Chang, where he was a senior foreign attorney.

The 700-plus lawyer firm’s recent hot hiring spree has included former Lee & Ko media and entertainment practice head Chunghwan Choi, IP and media partners JongCheol Lee and Mun Hui Kim, and a four-partner M&A team from Yoon & Yang, led by practice head Sung-Jin Kim, and leading arbitration lawyer David MacArthur.

Yulchon also recently hired a number of former Korean prosecutors, including Sang Mook Kang, who joined in February, and Wook Jin Rha and Woo Y. Choe, who joined in December.

Koo has experience advising clients in the telecommunications, enterprise database software, and digital audio compression industries in relation to the Korea Fair Trade Commission investigations concerning market dominance and unfair trade practices.

He has also handled multi-jurisdictional patent and antitrust litigation matters in the fields of LED, telecommunications, automotive, and chemicals, as well as advising telecommunications and internet companies on privacy, licensing, and government affairs matters.

“The addition of Dave as a senior foreign attorney not only enhances our expertise but also bolsters our capability to handle high-profile international cases,” said Doil Son, head of Yulchon’s IP and technology practice, in a statement.

“These hires are a continuation of our plan to deepen our bench of highly experienced lawyers equipped with international capabilities in order to meet the growing demand for such services across borders,” Son added.
