INNOVATION & LEADERSHIP

TURNING 2020 VISION INTO ACTION

JOIN BUSINESS LEADERS IN ASIA TO DISCUSS WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR THE LEGAL INDUSTRY – AND WHY INNOVATION NEEDS TO BE AT THE CENTRE OF DEVELOPMENTS FOR 2015 AND BEYOND.

This special year-end lunch forum brings together business leaders to discuss what innovation means for law firms and in-house legal teams. Attendees will engage with those at the centre of the legal community in Asia, as well as external experts. Find out how to embrace the uncertainty of inevitable change, how to implement strategies for the future and how to recast the lawyer from reactive adviser to a more strategic role in 2015 and beyond. A keynote address and panel discussion will be lead by a world-renowned creativity speaker & author and a Reuters TV Producer.

This is more than a conference and more than a networking reception - it brings together the best of both worlds. Networking opportunities with key individuals within the legal sector, both private practice and in-house, will be found in the pre-lunch reception and during the gourmet 3 course lunch itself, whilst the event will also allow you to genuinely understand how to maintain an innovative and industry leading organisation.

Reward your clients and key staff by hosting a table at this thought-provoking, inspirational year-end celebration designed to engage and motivate the audience to innovate for success in 2015.

Sharyn Ch’ang, Director and Global Counsel, PricewaterhouseCoopers

Sharyn has had a range of interesting roles. She’s been based in Australia, Singapore and now, Hong Kong, and her clients today are located across the world. As Global Counsel for PwC, Sharyn leads the legal team that manages the PwC brand (the world’s 4th most powerful brand, Brand Finance Global 500, 2013 ranking), and oversees the legal development of some of PwC’s most entrepreneurial global projects. She was PwC’s first Asia regional counsel, and in 2012, the Asia legal team won the Euromoney Asia Women in Business Law Award for the Best Inhouse team (under 50 lawyers).

In addition to practice with major law firms where Sharyn specialized in intellectual property, she’s worked in the IT industry with IBM and Silicon Graphics, and in education for the Australian Government, as the founding National Director of IP with responsibility for Australia’s 9,600 schools. She was the National Training Manager for Australia’s first commercial online legal information business – training lawyers to efficiently maximize their online legal research capabilities (in those days that was the forefront of legal technology!) and the first female Associate to Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG - then President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, and one of Australia’s leading judicial personalities. She’s also a former member of the Australian Government’s Advisory Council on Intellectual Property which advises the Federal Minister for Industry on Australia’s IP regime.

A theme that joins the dots in Sharyn’s career is innovation – as a creator, advisor and advocate. At university she had a go at developing a computerised legal expert system. When training lawyers on information retrieval techniques she was a hands-on legal technology pioneer. In private practice, Sharyn had clients from major banks to enterprising small business, helping them to identify and protect their investment in creativity. And as inhouse counsel, Sharyn develops solutions to make innovative commercial ideas, a reality. She is passionate about “doing things better” but well appreciates the challenges of the legal profession to innovate.
