King & Wood Mallesons has acted for Hong Kong-based Affinity Private Equity Partners, one of the largest independent Asian private equity firms, on its A$630 million ($457 million) purchase of Australia-listed debt and trade finance provider Scottish Pacific Group, which was represented by PwC Legal.

Scottish Pacific is Australia and New Zealand’s largest specialist non-bank provider of working capital solutions.

The latest vehicle will invest in upper-middle-market companies in mature markets such as South Korea, Australia and New Zealand, as well as the growth markets of Southeast Asia and China, according to media reports. 

The KWM team was led by private equity Partners Mark McNamara, Lee Horan and Alex Elser, who were supported by banking and finance partners Paul Smith, Yuen-Yee Cho and Kate Jackson-Maynes.

Major Japanese law firm TMI Associates has entered into an alliance with Malaysian law firm SY Teo & Co, set up by Sze Yi Teo, an associate in TMI’s Singapore office. The alliance will also establish an office in Kuala Lumpur under the name of SY Teo & Co in Association with TMI Associates.
