AdventBalance may have officially launched only a week ago, but staff and clients are already witnessing the benefits of the union between Advent and Balance Legal.

The two secondment-based firms have united their former offices in Melbourne into one and are now focusing on new markets such as Brisbane. “We have engaged someone on the ground to evaluate the market, start talking to clients and recruit lawyers,” said John Knox, managing director, of the firm’s Asia operations. “There is no physical presence there yet, but we are hopeful of having some news to make regarding legal practitioners in the near future.”

Balance Legal has previously sent staff from its Melbourne and Perth offices to Brisbane to assists clients according to Balance founder, and CEO of AdventBalance Ken Jagger, particularly those in the energy and resources sectors. “We are continuing to look to expand either as rapidly or more rapidly than what we have in the past,” he said of the new firm.  “We are going to work very hard to continue to grow the business in both current and new markets here and in Asia.”

Jagger said staff with experience in energy and resources were increasingly attractive to clients expanding overseas. “Increasingly the clients we have been acting for in Australia have been looking at opportunities in South East Asia, so we think there is a good opportunity for us to follow our clients into those markets through our new Singapore office,” he said.
