Clifford Chance has further expanded Middle East presence with the opening of Doha-based office in the Qatar Financial Center. The office will be the firm’s third in the region.
Headed by projects specialist partner Richard Parris and supported by counsel Greg Englefield who previously spent two years on secondment to a local Qatar law firm The Law Office of Gebran Majdalany, the firm has brought in Islamic finance lawyer and Arabic speaker Hussain Shalchi to join the office.
Parris has been in the region for seven years and Englefield had assisted in the development of the firm’s existing Qatari practice over the last six years.
The team in Doha will work closely with Clifford Chance lawyers across the Firm's Middle East and international network to provide clients with access to the full range of the Firm's expertise. The firm anticipates that headcount will increase over the coming months.
"Clients have responded very positively to our presence in Qatar. While we have long-standing and well-entrenched relationships in Qatar, there is an understandable desire to have advisors near at hand when working on strategically critical mandates," Parris said.
Clifford Chance has been active in Qatar since the 1980s and already regularly works with leading Qatari entities, international banks, financial institutions and corporate entities based in Qatar. We are delighted with the headway the Qatar team is making, both with existing and new Qatari clients," Middle East Managing Partner Graham Lovett said.ALB
