Clyde & Co has provided another piece of evidence of Doha’s increasing importance for international law firms with the appointment of experienced corporate lawyer and former Simmons & Simmons managing associate Jason Majid to its office in that city.
The Canadian-qualified Majid is expected to be confirmed as partner upon completion of his registration with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in Qatar as a Registered Foreign Lawyer. He has nine years of experience in the Middle East, including four years with Al Tamimi in Dubai, during which time he helped set up that firm’s office in Baghdad in Iraq. Majid’s practice areas include M&A, corporate structuring and joint ventures, capital markets, and foreign direct investment.
“The Qatar office has built steadily since its establishment in 2007 to a point where Clyde & Co is recognised as one of the strongest players in the market. Qatar is currently experiencing a period of unprecedented opportunity and Jason’s arrival fits with our broader strategic plan to increase capacity to service projects across the region, and further strengthens our corporate service offering,” said David Salt, managing partner of Clyde & Co's Qatar office, in a statement.
Majid’s appointment is the second significant Clyde & Co hire in the Middle East in about a month, following the appointment of former DLA Piper banking and finance partner Adrian Low to the firm's Dubai office. ALB
