Davinder Singh SC, probably Singapore’s most celebrated litigator, has left Big Four firm Drew & Napier after 37 years. He will set up a new firm, where he will be joined by Drew directors Jaikanth Shankar and Pardeep Singh Khosa.

Singh, 61, was most recently executive chairman of the firm. He took on that role two years ago, after voluntarily stepping down from the role of CEO of Drew.

Cavinder Bull SC, who became CEO at that point, will continue in his role. Jimmy Yim SC, managing director of Drew’s dispute resolution department, will take over as chairman.

During his decades-long career, Singh has represented Singapore’s founding prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew, in lawsuits against opposition politicians, as well as against international media outlets. Other landmark cases include representing Lee Hsien Loong, Singapore’s current prime minister, in a defamation lawsuit against blogger Roy Ngerng, and Singapore Press Holdings in a defamation lawsuit brought by the then CEO of the National Kidney Foundation.

More recently, he represented Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council in a suit against three opposition MPs and two town councillors for alleged breaches of fiduciary duties.

Last year, Singh took home the award for Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year at the ALB SE Asia Law Awards, while Drew & Napier was named both Singapore Litigation Law Firm of the Year and Regional Litigation Law Firm of the Year.
