Singapore Big Four firm Drew & Napier won four awards at the ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2017, including the coveted Southeast Asia Law Firm of the Year trophy, while Herbert Smith Freehills’ haul of three included Singapore Managing Partner of the Year for Alastair Henderson.

Held at the St. Regis Singapore on May 18, the 13th edition of the SE Asia Law Awards was the most open till date, with the awards distributed fairly evenly among some of the biggest domestic and international law firm names.

Drew and HSF dominated the disputes categories, with the latter picking up the Law In Order Award for International Arbitration Law Firm of the Year, while the Regional Litigation Law Firm and Singapore Litigation Law Firm awards went to the former. Meanwhile, Providence Law Asia was chosen as the Dispute Resolution Boutique Law Firm of the Year.

On the transactional side, WongPartnership was named the SE Asia Deal Firm of the Year, while Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer was hailed as the International Deal Firm of the Year. Among the new categories, Aldgate Chambers was selected as Rising Law Firm of the Year, while Estrella C. Elamparo of DivinaLaw was honoured as the Woman Lawyer of the Year.

Baker McKenzie also had a good night, taking home the awards for Medical Law Firm of the Year, Regional IP Law Firm of the Year and Tax and Trusts Law Firm of the Year.

Among the in-house categories, Christopher Y. Chan of RedMart landed the In-house Lawyer of the Year award. Other key awards went to Lazada South East Asia (Innovative In-house Team of the Year) and BHP Billiton (SE Asia In-house Team of the Year).
