The Macallan ALB Hong Kong Law Awards 2014, held at the Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong on Sep. 5, celebrated the achievements of the winners of 40 awards, including eight new prizes across deal, law firm and in-house categories.

The new awards were the Real Estate Deal of the Year, Hong Kong Deal of the Year, Private Equity In-House Team of the Year, Paul Weiss Award TMT In-House Team of the Year, Hong Kong In-House Team of the Year, Immigration Law Firm of the Year, TMT Law Firm of the Year and Hong Kong Deal Firm of the Year.

The Carlyle Group took home the Private Equity In-House Team of the Year award, while Alibaba Group and Citigroup won the awards for TMT In-House Team of the Year and Hong Kong In-House Team of the Year, respectively.

Harvey Law Group was revealed as the Immigration Law Firm of the Year, with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer picking up the gong for TMT Law Firm of the Year. Linklaters took home the prestigious Hong Kong Deal Firm of the Year award.

The acquisition of HK Parkview Group and the placing of shares by COFCO Land Holdings was adjudged the Real Estate Deal of the Year. Freshfields, Norton Rose Fulbright, Jun He Law Offices, Haiwen & Partners and Conyers Dill & Pearman were the law firms involved in this deal.

Meanwhile, Alibaba Group’s Debt Financing was declared the Hong Kong Deal of the Year. Freshfields, King & Wood Mallesons, White & Case, Fangda Partners, Maples and Calder and Walkers were the firms involved on the transaction.

The 13th annual The Macallan ALB Hong Kong Law Awards recognised Hong Kong’s best law firms, legal work and lawyers across a total of 40 categories. The evening entertained around 400 high-profile legal luminaries, including globally renowned law firms, in-house counsel and business leaders in Hong Kong and North Asia.
