Mumbai-based law firm Brus Chambers has opened an independent subsidiary firm Brus Chambers LLC in New York.

Headed by partner Afia Sengupta, the New York office serves as the headquarters for its branch offices in New Jersey, Washington and Missouri.

According to LegallyIndia, the firm has 32 U.S.-qualified lawyers and paralegals in New York, and focuses primarily on commercial litigation and corporate transactional work.

The launch comes at a time when government of India is pushing legislation for foreign law firms to operate in India. “We are ready for it but foreign countries should also allow us to practice there,” said partner Shrikant Hathi, in a statement.

Brus Chambers in India was established in 1992, and specialises in shipping, infrastructure and international arbitration.
