Rob Wannan has been appointed chairman of Kemp Strang Lawyers, as the firm moves to finalise its governance structure and drive future growth. The firm has settled on a board model with both the new chairman and a managing partner to drive future growth. Stephen Godding is the firm’s managing partner.
“As Kemp Strang has evolved, the firm has given careful consideration to the most suitable governance structure and believes the board model, with a chairman and a managing partner, best fits our needs,” Wannan said. “We can make decisions quickly, access the skills and expertise of a range of partners when required, and ensure the firm continues to develop.”
Wannan joined Kemp Strang in 2001 as part of a merger between Greaves Wannan & Williams, and has worked as a consultant for the firm since that time. He also has a number of external board positions and is chairman of two not-for-profit foundations.
Meanwhile, Kemp Strang partner John Coates has been elected to the executive board of the International Olympic Committee and will therefore be moving into the role of special counsel. Coates, who is also vice president of the International Council of Arbitration in Sport, said the move will ensure he balances his time effectively.
“Given the time and travel commitments that come with an IOC appointment, acting as special counsel is an opportunity to stay with the firm in a meaningful way,” Coates said.
