Chief executives from law associations around the world have arrived in Adelaide to participate in the annual International Conference of Law Association CEOs being held in Australia for the first time.

Major changes to the way the legal profession is regulated is one of many issues being discussed at the two day conference. Some of the other topics being raised at the conference include ethical standards of lawyers and continuing legal education (CLE).

Attending the conference, which was officially opened by the president of the Law Society of South Australia, Ralph Bönig, are 40 delegates who represent a diverse group of more than one million lawyers from both small and large law societies.“The conference provides an opportunity for the CEOs of Australian state and territory organisations to get together in one place with a range of counterparts from around the world,” said Bönig. “It’s a chance to share and learn about how things are done in other parts of the world, in an open discussion. We may do things differently, but by sharing ideas with each other we can do them better.”

The Law Society of South Australia also held its general meeting this week, where Bönig was re-elected to serve another year as president.
