The public and the legal profession are now able to access current contact information for solicitors and barristers through two new apps. Law Society of NSW has developed an app to provide up-to-date contact information for solicitors and mediators in the state; while Foley’s List, an independent group of over 200 barristers has launched an app that allows solicitors to search for and request a barrister while on the move.

The society’s Find a Lawyer app is iPhone and Android compatible and contains up-to-date contact information as well as key details such as the languages spoken and areas of expertise. President of the Law Society of NSW, Justin Dowd, said the launch of the app was part of the society’s ongoing commitment to improving access to legal advice and information. “The searchable database is a ‘one stop shop’ with details on all solicitors who hold a certificate to practice in NSW,” Dowd said.

He added that the Find a Lawyer function is currently one of the most popular ‘clicks’ on the Law Society website, and includes ‘find a solicitor’, ‘find a practice’ and ‘find a mediator’. The solicitor database can also be searched by first and surname, suburb, region and area of Accredited Specialisation.

The free Foley’s List app offers a barrister availability request service and unlimited access to resources, seminars and papers. The app provides access to all of the core items available on Foley’s List homepage, including the complete barrister register which is searchable by name, area of practice and level of experience.

Users of the app are able to search and view up-to-date profiles of barristers and request their availability, as well as access PDFs and videos detailing key legislative changes, local government updates and the latest industry developments. The app is available for free for iPhone and iPad from the app store while the Find my Lawyer app is available through the iTunes store and Google play store.
