Global law firm Herbert Smith has been appointed to Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Co’s legal panels, becoming one of 13 international law firms to have been chosen in the company’s largest legal tenders to date.

The firm will cover legal services for Qatari Diar’s infrastructure/construction, property finance and United Kingdom projects panels.

“This is an excellent outcome for the firm, and the appointment is very much in line with our strategy and commitment to Qatar and the wider GCC region. In addition, it illustrates the strength of our market-leading real estate sector practices,” said Neil Brimson, managing partner of Herbert Smith’s Doha office.

Brimson and Ian Cox, who is the global head of real estate, led the Herbert Smith team.

Norton Rose, Ashurst, Allen & Overy and Simmons & Simmons have also been appointed to provide legal consultancy for Qatari Diar. The appointments, which have taken effect from April 1, 2012, came after 46 law firms tendered for six legal panels. The law firm appointments will be for an initial period of three years. ALB
